Isn't it amazing how television influences our lives? Not only in regards to the cultural and behavioral aspect but also vocabulary. If you are fond of soap operas, it is very common for a character to create a new expression which very soon becomes a catchphrase. Sometimes, this expression doesn’t make any sense at all but it is easily absorbed - due mainly to ceaseless repetition - thus becoming so natural that it may end up in a dictionary. At the same time, when watching or reading the news (in our own language), we sometimes come across an unknown word which we simply decide to ignore, although the same word may be written in different occasions.

Why is that?
The fact is that we tend to memorize the words that we think are necessary for our survival. That includes social survival, which explains why some expressions become so popular.
So, don’t panic if you come across a new word whenever you read an article or book or even when you watch a movie. If the word is essential for your survival, you will be able to understand and even memorize it. If not, there are always some good online dictionaries for you to consult.

haha, very nice post, I liked !
