How's everyone doing? It's Will again.
Picking from our last post, we are studying the difference between the Simple Past and the Present Perfect Simple tenses
In the example, once again we contrast these two tenses. The intention on both cases is the duration of a fact.
In the first example, as it refers to a situation which is no longer true, we use the Simple Past tense. As for the second case, it is about the duration of a current fact, therefore, the present perfect tense is used.

A intenção de ambos os exemplos é a duração de um fato.
No primeiro exemplo, como se trata de um fato já encerrado, utilizamos o simple past. Já no segundo, trata-se da duração de um fato atual, portanto utilizamos o present perfect.
